In past years, more than 25 skiplanes have participated, showcasing this unique segment of flight that is quite popular throughout many parts of North America. The majority of skiplanes will arrive (weather and runway conditions permitting) mid-morning and will stay until mid-afternoon. In the event weather or snow conditions do not permit aircraft arrivals at Pioneer Airport, several other activities will continue as planned, including complimentary chili and cake celebrating the birthday of EAA's matriarch, Audrey Poberezny, served beginning at 10:30 a.m. Read more

There's still time to enroll in the two-day SportAir workshop session at the EAA Aviation Center in Oshkosh on January 29-30. Get first-hand knowledge, tips and techniques from aviation experts, many who have been featured in EAA's Hints for Homebuilders video series. Enroll today and be on your way to living the dream! Here's what is being offered during this special weekend program:
Fundamentals of Aircraft Construction
This course is hands-on and provides an overview for the person who is undecided about whether to build an airplane or what type of airplane they want to build. All of the available building options are discussed, along with actual experience in wood, composite construction, fabric covering, and sheet metal aircraft assembly. After this workshop, you'll be able to make educated decisions as to whether building or restoring an aircraft is for you. Duration: 2 days. Member Price $195.
Gas Welding (SOLD OUT )
This two-day workshop teaches practical welding theory and provides hours of hands-on experience using oxyacetylene welding techniques. Duration: 2 days. Member Price $289.
Sheet Metal Basics
This workshop is designed to help you discover that you really can build or restore your own airplane. You'll learn about the different metals and fastener systems, as well as the various specialty tools needed. Gain a solid grounding in the basics of sheet metal construction by first building a simple sheet metal project and then moving on to a second, more complex project: a sheet metal wing section. All tools and materials are supplied. Duration: 2 days. Member Price $294.
Composite Construction
This course provides you with what you need to know to begin building a composite aircraft. The classroom portion includes a complete discussion of core materials, reinforcement materials, and different types of resin systems. The hands-on portion includes skills such as bonding, hot-wire cutting, and lay-ups. A portion of the course goes over the basics of mold making and part construction. Vacuum bagging is discussed and demonstrated. Duration: 2 days. Member Price $269.
Electrical Systems and Avionics
Learn the basics of antenna mounting, coax cable installation, wiring of radio systems, soldering and crimping components, alternator and electrical system requirements, installation of electrical systems, and more. You'll learn proper soldering techniques and have plenty of opportunities to practice. You will also complete several hands-on projects designed to apply and reinforce what you learn in the classroom. Duration: 2 days. Member Price $289.
Fabric Covering
This session prepares you to cover or re-cover any type of aircraft, whether certified or experimental. Using the Poly-Fiber Covering System, the class covers DC-3 ailerons. All steps are demonstrated and practiced, including preparation, gluing the fabric, shrinking, rib stitching, taping, and spraying. Repair procedures will also be discussed and practiced. Duration: 2 days. Member Price $269.
Test Flying Your Project
This 1-day workshop helps builders or restorers prepare for the first flight and develop a suitable test program. Topics covered: evaluation of the aircraft, pilot preparedness, weight & balance, suitability of the airport, documentation, test flight data, and more. A flight test handbook and other materials are included with the program. There is a limited number of seats available, so sign up today. Special EAA Member Price is $25, a savings of more than $100.
ELSA Repairman Inspection Certification
Earn your FAA Repairman/Inspection certificate for your ELSA. This FAA-approved 16-hour workshop allows you to earn a Repairman/Inspection certificate for your airplane certificated in the experimental light-sport aircraft (ELSA) category. This certificate authorizes you to perform the annual condition inspection on your airplane. The class is limited to 16 students. Duration: 2 days. Member Price $299
What's Involved in Kit Building
This Saturday evening seminar is a fact-filled discussion of regulations and paperwork, the workspace required, the time commitment needed, the financial investment, and insurance considerations for building your own aircraft. This course may be taken in conjunction with other workshops, and includes a pizza dinner for participants. The price for this class is $25. Bring up to 2 family members along for no extra charge! Pre-registration required for all attending.
